I think you guys have the right idea on your current videos; however you need to break them into smaller segments covering a piece at a time.
First set of videos need to cover the following:
1- Interface
2- Tables
3- Forms
4- Lists
5- Payment
6- Packages
7- Settings
Interface:
This should be a brief video about 5 to 10 mins coving the interface and how it works. Don’t go into any detail but keep it as a high overview of what each area is for.
Tables:
This should be a video anywhere from 10 to 15 mins covering how to construct tables and how the tables are stored in SQL. Build 2 small tables that have maybe two to three fields in them showing the construction of a table and enplane the following:
How the naming convention works in relation to the Package in SQL Enterprise Manager
The pk, dnm_UserID, dnm_sid, dnm_isClosed fields and how they are used and how they can be used in your project. Again don’t show how to use any of this stuff yet just explain how you could use the items in your project.
Forms:
This video should be 15 to 20 mins explaining the proper process of building forms, ie Build and Edit form before a View form Connect the form to the table that was constructed in the Tables video and then show how you can apply css to fields, show how alternating templates work, etc. The key is showing how you can affect the output of your data with simple items. The videos you have now say you can alter the look and feel but don’t provide a visual reference to see the what if aspect. This video should only cover the following properties:
Form View
Form Data
Form Data Display
Form Design
Save the rest for different videos going into that level of detail.
Lists:
This is an important one because I was left dumb founded for a while until I figured out what was going on. Unless you see first had how to build lists using RAD you are left scratching your head for some time on how the process works. It would also be key to mention that using RAD’s internal list command will not provide you a means of saving your value as an PK, rather is saving the text value of the item.
So I would do a 5 to 10 min video showing the creation of two different lists one with sub items and one as a straight single like of items.
Payment:
I have no suggestions as of yet for this process because I haven’t started exploring this area of RAD
Packages:
This would be a 5 to 10 min video showing the steps to create a package and installing a package to a different DNN install or portal. Depending on the detail this could stretch to a 15 min vid but would be important to show the ins and outs.
I would also note that when building packages Data is not bundled with it.
Settings:
Again I have no suggestions here because I have yet to explore this area.

Once you have the core videos I would then expand on them showing how Navigation works between the edit and view forms. How to pass data between forms building a 1 to many setup. Then integrate the List(s) you created showing how the user can interact with them. This would maybe be a couple of short videos showing the steps as it unfolds.
Again a lot of this would be a repeat of what you have already done but if you break it into shorter segments you would provide the following:

a- Retain the end users attention
b- Provide a means for users to watch a short video instead of looking through a long view on how to do something
c- Make easy modification of videos as the product changes and grows
d- Provide the end user a visual of ‘what if’ scenarios.
I think once you get the videos broken down to that level you will have the end users at a stage where they will be confident they can build there project.

Anyway just my 2 cents on the subject.

Doug

Hi Doug,

Many thanks for your valuable suggestion. The main reason why those videos covered so many things at one go was because they were done slightly prior to the Openfoce'09 (i.e. where we exhibited the RAD) so we wanted to cover as many aspects as much as possible, thus giving an idea how things flow. A similar approach was done back then with the blogs.

Now is the time to start doing something like you are suggesting, since we can isolate the various aspects of the RAD and blog / do videos of them. These will serve as quick reference guides.

So, we will definately take your suggestion into consideration. Believe me, your "2 cents" is much more valuable than you thought :). If you have any other ideas, please feel free to post them.

Cheers

Justin

I do really like to see a tutorial about how to create Simple web services and connect them
with different forms in DNM Application....

Thanks a lot,

Sam Bitar
